
Hackers withdrew approximately $13 million of digital currencies from the hot wallet of the South Korean bitcoin exchange GDAC, which amounted to ~ 23% of the total assets on the platform.
The attackers’ booty was 60.8 BTC, 350.5 ETH, 10,000 WEMIX tokens, and 220,000 USDT.
The platform team suspended withdrawals and deposits, notified regulators of the incident, and contacted law enforcement for investigation.
The exchange has also asked centralized trading platforms and DeFi protocols to help freeze withdrawals.
According to the statement, the exchange conducts a quarterly audit of the holding and adequacy of reserves with the help of a third-party accounting firm. The provision of user deposits exceeded 100%.
In 2022, the total damage to the crypto industry as a result of hacks, bankruptcies and other incidents exceeded $63.9 billion.
