Digital Currency Group may sell CoinDesk portal

The Digital Currency Group may sell the popular cryptocurrency and blockchain portal CoinDesk.

According to The Wall Street Journal, options for the full or partial sale of the Internet resource are being considered.

DCG CEO Kevin Worth confirmed that the deal will be part of a plan to address the financial problems his team is facing. He also noted that over the past few months, a group of potential buyers have become interested in the portal.

In 2022, CoinDesk was able to raise $50 million and was acquired by Digital Currency Group in 2016 for approximately $600,000.

The group expects to sell this portal for $200 mln, and the Lazard investment bank will assist it in the implementation of the deal. The structure of the DCG holding also includes Grayscale, the Genesis platform, the Foundry miner and the Luno exchange. To raise funds, the giant is also considering selling part of its assets for up to $500 million.

After the crash of the FTX exchange in November 2022, many cryptocurrency platforms, including Genesis, faced problems. On the eve of the media reported on the readiness of this company to launch bankruptcy proceedings.
